News: The Jubilee Bridge

To mark Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum  Jubilee our Volunteers have been asked to build a bridge across a stream in Lower Withy Copse.

When?     Friday 3rd June, all day.
Where?  300 metres down the footpath past the Substation. (Signposted on the day).
What?     An opportunity for a family day out- don't forget your picnic.
Find out more?  Please revisit this blog, we will update it as we have more information.

The Directors  are currently designing the bridge and planning for this  commemorative project.  The wooden bridge will be built from our home grown sweet chestnut.  It will be used as a footbridge and lightweight tractor crossing  of the stream above.  We will be setting aside an area for visitors to enjoy the day and see the construction of the bridge and hope to provide a refreshment tent.  Beenham Village Events are  promoting this as part of the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend events within Bee, nham.

Update: 21st April

We have made good progress and have finalised the design of the bridge- see illustration below.
All of the home grown sweet chestnut has been selected and prepared to size. We still need to finalise the day but we are hoping for similar facilities that we have provided at our previous Open days.

Update: 27 May

With just a week to go before the big day we have got the foundations and support posts into place, ready for our volunteers to build the bridge for the official opening at 4 pm. We are now putting the finishing touches to the visitor facilities.  There will be refreshments along with some home baked cakes to buy on the day from late morning . The picnic area will be mowed before next week and we will also have some tables and chairs if you prefer. Don't forget parking is only available for disabled and needs to be pr arranged please. Direction signs to the bridge will be posted from the Substation and Douai entrance.

Update 9 June

We completed the bridge as planned and it was opened at 4pm  by Beenham Village Events superstar Pat Owen assisted by Felix Rowe.
